What is Turquoise

Turquoise can differ in colour from light blue, turquoise or green and it shows erratic lines that look like cracks. Iran has the highest quality varieties followed by some south-western American stones.

Turquoise is a very valuable stone. It is arguably the most valuable non-transparent mineral.

Interesting Facts:

Turquoise comes from a French word meaning "Turkish". This is because the stone went from Iran, via Turkey when being transported to Europe.

Ancient Egyptians mined Turquoise as early as 6000 BC.

Chrysocolla and dyed Howlite are often mistaken for Turquoise.
