Tektite, a beautiful gift from the outer world

Tektite, the name is derived from the Greek word “tectos” which means “molten”. The stone is a form of molten glass. The formation of this rare beauty is pretty interesting. It was created when partially burnt meteorites hit the earth’s surface.

The stone temperature rose to high levels because of the friction with the earth’s atmosphere, and due to its impact on the earth’s surface more heat added up which made the stone to fuse with minerals resulting in a exquisite glass like stone.

People believe that the gemstone is a gift from heaven. It is actually a meteorite that falls on the earth. The stone is found in Australia, Tibet and USA. The Tibetan stone is considered as the most powerful.

Most of the stones are found in irregular shapes and some are also available in aerodynamic shapes such as tear drops, disks and dumb-bell shaped stones. The stones are rich in silica and have composition very similar to that of meteorites. It also contains oxides of potassium, calcium and aluminum. The stones are translucent in nature and are available in a varied range of colors.
