Rainbow Obsidian is an exquisite looking gemstone. It has been formed after cooling of lava from volcanic eruptions within the surface of the earth. It bears a glassy rainbow colored look because the cooling of the molten lava at a specific speed which prevents crystallization and results in a solid volcanic glass rock. This gemstone is considered to be the most prized one. The gemstone looks very beautiful with its variety of purple, green and shiny gold bands. The gemstone is pre historic in nature and was first revered by ancient cultures. It was used an s a major barter material and was used in making jewelry. The gemstone is considered as a prized gemstone because of its golden sheen. The gemstone is vitreous and translucent in nature. It has a hardness of 5-5.5 on Mohs scale with an average specific gravity of 2.6. The gemstone is available in many places namely Italy, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Scotland and USA.
