Pietersite, a fascinating gemstone

Pietersite is a brilliant looking gemstone that belongs to a family called Riebeckite. It is known as a mineral that changes from one form into another. This gemstone is originated in form of asbestos.

It was known as crocidolite which took on the shape of fibrous mineral. The surface of this stone is fairly chaotic with streaks and colors extending in every direction. While forming a crystal the materials break apart, they swirl in every direction and it is then brought together by quartz.

There are various colors that are available which includes blues, golds, browns and rusty reds. There is a wide variety of blue available which ranges from dark midnight blue to baby blue.

The gemstone has originated from Namibia and is very rare to find. The discoverer, Sid Pieters found this stone almost by accident in the year 1962. The gemstone has a very fascinating history that makes it all the more desirable.
