It is found in England, Canada, Greenland, Norway, USA, Czech Republic and Sweden. Adirondack Mountains of New York is considered to be the most important deposit of the world. It is a common mineral and is found in igneous and metamorphic rocks. The stone is brittle in nature and produces sparks of fire when struck against iron. The stone which is of ornamental variety has a sub-metallic luster. These stones are basically weathered specimens and have cleavage in two directions at nearly 90 degrees. The hardness of the stone is around 5-6 and has a specific gravity of 3.4-3.9. The stone is a favored one because of the bronze like looks and is very popular too.
