Fossilized Wood, an exotic stone made from wood
Fossilized wood is otherwise known as Petrified wood. It is made up of organic matter which has been replaced by agate during the decomposition process. This stone was originated as wood however over centuries the wood has been transformed into rock. This stone can be found worldwide. During this process the wood fibers slowly and steadily changed into stone. The color of the stone is brown and it is also found in gray and green color. These stone comes from Argentina, Czech Republic and Egypt but the best quality stone is found in the Petrified National Forest Park in Arizona. The stone is pretty similar to agate and has a hardness of 7 on Mohs scale. Petrified wood is derived from the word petrify which means “turn to stone”. It is called so because the wood turns to stone after decomposition. The word is also similar to the Greek word “piedra” and a Latin word “pietra”, words for the stone.
