What is Fluorite
The name Fluorite comes from Latin "fluere" meaning flow. It ranges in colour from; purple, blue, green, yellow, colourless, brown, pink, black to reddish orange. It can shows bands of colour that run parallel. It is usually transparent to translucent. Although it has a large variety of possible colours, it is most known for the deep rich purple colour.
Fluorite is often compared to stones like Amethyst to display colour should not be the only form of identification.

Fluorite is commonly known as "The Most Colourful Mineral in the World".
Fluorite is frequently fluorescent under ultraviolet light (UV) and, like its normal light colours; its fluorescent colours are extremely variable. Typically it fluoresces blue but other fluorescent colours include yellow, green, red, white and purple.
Fluorite sometimes (very rarely) possesses thermo luminescence abilities (to glow when heated). Once this has happened, it will never glow again.
Apart from Quartz, Fluorite is the most common sought after mineral for mineral collectors.
