Chiastolite Jewellery
It is Andalusite crystals that contain a cross shaped inclusion caused by carbon
usually from graphite. It is otherwise known as a Cross Stone because
of the cross like naturally developed patterns.
I have read that the name derived from a Greek word chiastos which
means cross markedbut the Oxford Dictionary says that the name is
early 19th century: from Greek khiastos 'arranged crosswise' + -
The stone is rich in carbon impurities. It was first discovered in Spain and
it is found in red, brown, orange and green color.
The stone has a hardness rating of 7.5 on Mohs scale suitable for designing
various kinds of jewellery.
The gemstone is found in many countries namely Brazil, Sri Lanka, France, Russia,
Chile, Algeria, France, Canada, America and Australia (click here for a map

The structure of the gemstone is orthorhombic.
