What is Chalcedony

Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline variety of Quartz that usually contains Moganite as well. As it can have trace elements or microscopic inclusions of other minerals, it can come in a variety of colours (see below). When in drusy form, the crystals of the stone give a "sparkling" effect especially when under light. The quartz crystals of the stone are coarse and display the crystal structure.

There are many types:

Agate - Displays concentrically bands

Bloodstone – Dark green with patches of red Jasper

Carnelian - Blood red to orange colour

Chrysoprase - Apple green coloured

Jasper - Red, brown, green or cream coloured

Moss Agate - Moss inclusions

Onyx - Is only black and white
