What is Cats Eye

Cats Eye (Cat's Eye) refers to a variety of gemstones that display a vertical streak of light when cut cabochon. Although it can refer to a large number of stone types (Tourmaline, Corundum & Quartz), it usually refers to chrysoberyl.

The variety of Chrysoberyl that is known as Cats Eye is known as Cymophane. It has a streak of reflection that is caused by very small inclusions of rutile needles. It can come in a variety of colours from yellow, greenish, grey to black.
