What is Banded Agate

Banded Agate is a natural stone and a member of the chalcedony family, which, when cut, displays bands of colour. The colours can vary - black, white, grey, red, brown and blue. The stripes are caused by siliceous materials being layered over time in an empty cavity or nodule in igneous rock . They are generally concentric bands with roughly the same axis point, The stones vary largely in size, depending on the size of the cavity in which they formed.
