What is Ammonite
An Ammonite is actually not considered a mineral because it is a fossil. It occurs when the original fossil decays and another mineral takes the shape of the original fossil. Pyrite sediments have been found to take the shape of the spiral fossil. The opalised variety is also a common type. It is often set in jewellery or used as ornaments.
